You talk to most painters about where they had their training from, and they will tell you, I went to the College Of Art of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, or Ghanatta College of Art, or Winneba Specialist College, or from that training school. Unlike most of these painters, Samuel Agbenyegah with brush name, “Samkobee”, describes himself as a self-taught artist. Although he is a product of Mawuli Secondary School, he was an up and coming painted before he joined the school. Comments from close friends and admirers of his works succeeded in dissuading Sam from going to enrich his God given talent in painting in any of the Art institutions after his college education at Mawuli Secondary School in 1995. Sam’s specialty is the semi-abstract and abstract style of painting, in which he succeeds in retaining his African identity. His preferred medium is acrylics, sense of colour is masterly and he achieves a very appealing blend of shades and tones. Sam’s paintings have a freshness and sincerity, and he says that “Every time I paint, it is like pouring something from my Heart.”This is a painter, whose impressive growth in style and confidence has taken place from his studio. The popularity and achievements of Sam did not just happened, but came about through diligence, the ability to criticize his own work, and to receive criticism from others with grace.
