Maku Azu – 50 Days of Bare Bone
14th July 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
50 Days of Bare Bones
At the beginning of the year, I challenged myself daily to create an art piece. This journey was one of artistic exploration and experimentation. These experiments involved a wide range of both traditional and non-traditional materials such as acrylics, Indian inks, spray paints and pyrography.
I aimed at facing my anxieties and reservations, fearlessly baring myself to the canvas. So for 50 days I ventured to create works that challenged, fustrated and surprised me.
Contemporary African artist Maku Azu is best known for her emotive and jarring portraits made from unconventional materials, such as heavily textured construction materials, spray-paints, rubbed off acrylics and found metals; there are no boundaries. Self taught, she is influenced by human life and emotion.
